This episode features Australia’s premier surf guitarist Martin Cilia. During the conversation Martin talks about his early life in western Australia, his friendship with Hank Marvin and being a member of legendary Australian surf band The Atlantics. He also brings to life some of his vast vintage guitar and amp collection, And if that wasn’t enough we discuss life on the road with two of Australia’s hardest working bands, Mental As Anything and The Radiators. Oh and listen out for the Dick Dale story, that’s a good one. The interview includes references to childhood friend Roy Phillips who I interviewed in another episode of this podcast series. Roy went on to play drums with The Clash, Elvis Costello, Roxy Music and many other great bands of the 70s and 80s. Martin joined me online at the end of a very hot day from his studio in Sydney.
