Introduction

New Wave Heroes is the retro radio show that celebrates everything, New Wave, New Romantic and Synth Pop. It’s hard to define but music and pop culture from around 1978-ish to 1988-ish. And what a time to be alive. How lucky were we to grow up in this period of music history. For ten years we danced like no one was watching to what was in my opinion the best decade of pop music ever. We had big hair, huge shoulder pads, wore frilly shirts and too much makeup, and that was just the men!

About Me

I’m Neil and I was there. I even tried to be a New Wave pop star. That’s me in the picture below in the middle, shout out to Martin and Lisa. We were a synth band from Essex called Taste The Colour. Sadly fame passed us by, but I do still have the rejection letters from record labels which are fun to read. I was the proud owner of a Juno 106 synth and a Roland TR-707 drum machine. I wish I still had them.

My Vision

Disillusioned with today’s mainstream radio, I wanted to create a radio show that I and others would enjoy listening to. A nostalgic show with fantastic music from the late ’70s and ’80s, a cool retro vibe, doesn’t take itself too seriously and a tip of the hat towards those big personality DJs I listened to back in the day.

After the success of a one hour pilot show, New Wave Heroes was born and first aired on my internet radio stations Atlantic Surf Radio and Retro Pop Radio. Numerous features including Classic Albums, the New Wave Ninja music quiz (copyright), The Retro Mailbag, My Tune, Chart Countdowns, Pop Goes The Movies, A to Z of New Wave, Single, Album & Gig Reviews makes this show one of the most nostalgic and perfectly poptastic shows around. It’s just like having your own New Wave time machine.

Can I Use Your Show On My Internet Radio Station?

Yes. Whilst the copyright remains with me, I’m happy for you to schedule it on your radio station. I know from first hand experience how hard it is to find content to fill a 24/7 schedule. Simply make contact and I will send you a download link to the show archive.

Thanks For Stopping By

I hope you enjoy listening to New Wave Heroes as much as I do recording them. Please make contact for whatever reason via the contact page, or you can email me directly using the email address studio@newwaveheroes.com.

Remember going out to see your favourite band, or you have a date and you’re playing music whilst getting ready, excited about the evening ahead. Maybe you’re in the pub playing Asteroids or Space Invaders and a great song comes on the jukebox. Listen to any show and you are right back there.

And Finally

I’ll leave you with this thought. If you ever find yourself longing for those days when life felt simple and the world felt light, remember this: those years aren’t gone. We lived them, we carry them, and they’re still with us now. We may not stand in those moments physically, but they’re far from over. We are those years, and we take them wherever we go.
